Who Are We?
We
are a local community bushwalking club of around 150-200 members and
based in the city of Launceston, Tasmania, an island state off the
southeast of mainland Australia.
Our Objectives:
- To encourage and promote bushwalking and other allied outdoor activities.
- To support the conservation of scenic areas, flora and fauna.
- To support the maintenance of walking tracks.
- To foster social activity amongst club members.
The Club:
Our
club caters for varying age groups both in the bush and socially. We
plan walks which range from easy day walks to harder, longer walks
involving overnight camping. Weekend walks usually depart on Friday
nights, whilst day walks are usually held on Sundays. For some walks a
high level of fitness is required, as is experience in alpine
conditions. For other walks a fair level of fitness and a degree of
enthusiasm is all that is required.Club Trips:Walks
are held on most weekends throughout the year and details of each are
given on the Walks Program and in the Club's circular "Langana". Most
trips use the Club's own bus while Trip Coordinators organise cars on
other trips.
There
is a very active mountain biking programme on our calender with rides
ranging from easy to technical and our experienced members can always
help and guide the newer and less experienced members to this
adventurous activity.
We
have a very active Social Committee which always has something on the
go, especially on those weekends when there is only a day walk planned.
We enjoy bush dancing, film nights, progressive dinners, and meals at
the local pub.
We aim to help new members:
- Develop an appreciation of wilderness and scenic areas, native flora and fauna.
- Make friends with members who have similar interests.
- Gain the necessary skills to enjoy bushwalking safely.
- Visit some of Tasmania's most scenic spots.

Langana Magazine
We publish a Club circular "Langana" three times per year which is
sent free of charge to all members. It contains a wide variety of
material ranging from trip reviews and previews, competitions, social
events, articles on walking overseas, skiing tips, first aid, quotable
quotes and other activities. It is voluntarily maintained by our
publications committee and also features many photos taken by members
on recent trips.
